Observe how this girl looks in the photo. Exasperated...maybe stressed...just a big ol' hot mess? (she's a pretty hot mess but nonetheless a hot mess) Kinda feelin' that way today. This has just been one of those weeks where the synapses don't connect and you wonder if you are speaking a foreign language to people. My friend told me Mercury is in retrograde hence my communication issues. I am starting to believe her. That's why I gave myself a T.O. (as in Time Out). I am gonna work this weekend to check myself before I wreck myself. I hope your weekend is lovely my favorite friends!

For the domestic goddess in you...

Cool looking functional creamer & a french toast stamp
{because there was a time once when all I could "cook" was toast}

gin and tonic ice cube tray = AWESOME

Doesn't every home need a REAL cake cutter?

Like you didn't know this was coming...check out this cupcake mold. Sweet!

And for those of you looking for birthday gift ideas {cough, month}
...because I adore Scott Schuman and his lovely blog.

Happy Friday! xo

Things that make me smile...

This week's "Things that make me smile" is brought to you by my gal, Erika, in NYC. I am fortunate that my job allows me to see her quite frequently. She is a girl after my own heart in that she ADORES anything beauty product related. I think you will get a kick out of her response to this series. Here is something that makes Erika smile...

"...what started out as somewhat of a crap TGIFriday at work, the gods smiled upon me and the day evolved into into a girl's dream come true!! Things significantly turned around after I filed my 2008 (oopsie I forgot) AND 2009 taxes in which I surprisingly recieved a nice lump sum from both years...Yippee! (I was a nervous wreck after trying to file myself, the number was skyrocketing into the wrong direction-eeeek.) So I filed through a professional and HURRAY, money money money. Sigh...relief

To continue on, I have a friend who works at a fabulous fashion and beauty PR company. We hadn't seen each other since last summer and had corresponded regarding a trip to the Hamptons for Memorial Day weekend. She invites me to stop by her office to say "hi." I happily oblige as it's always great to see her. What happened next is where the real whimsy takes place! I walk into their office and it is a girl's paradise! Walls covered with shades of peonies, candy jars everywhere and FASHION racks galore. I'm in awe. "You are the luckiest girl in the world to work here, my heart is fluttering" I say to her... She said, "come on let's go, I'll show you around, let's get a bag!" Hmmm...okay!

Imagine for a moment the closets of Vogue or Allure and every single fabulous girlie high end product stocked into rows and rows and rows of closets! Then imagine a supermarket spree and the person is racing to get as much into the cart as possible. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. As all my friends know I am a very qualified beauty product junkie, so this was on par with a near overdose! She proceeded to throw countless products of Stila, Guerlain, Givenchy, Havianas, Philosophy, Tigi Cashmere Hair products, and soo many glosses galore. Oh my!! I kept saying OMG, this is sooo unnecessary, however loving every second of it! To share the wealth I brought a bunch of product to work to share with all my girlies who love good swag as well (who doesn't really!?)

After leaving, I went and had a glass of sancerre, and prepared for a "blind date" setup with my dentist and four "new friends." All very nice people, and I love meeting new friends. We went to a Chinese buffet (which was my first) then we rocked it out to some karaoke (also a first). All in all, WONDERFUL day!! I went to sleep with a big, fat, tipsy smile on my face. XO"

Erika, your call filled with excitement about the beauty goods made me smile, you crazy girl. xoxo

Moving day is not too far away and I have become obsessed {again} with furniture, decor, wall coverings and antiques. Every single room pictured above has an element{s} that I fact, I would take each room "to-go" and be A-OK. I fear that some of these luxe looks fall outside my budget or will not meet the tastes of The boy or are not too practical once a family grows. It's fun to gaze and wish though. I think the overall trend is that I ♥ lots of color, patterns and vignettes.

Things that make me smile...

This week's edition of "Things that make me smile" is brought to you by Julie! She's our first smile feature and what a great one it is. She's a blast to be around, an entrepreneur and a total girl's girl. She also knows a thing or two about glosses, fake eyelashes, bronzers, shadow blending and more! Check out her business, Makeup Deluxe, to learn about what makes this West Coast beauty and her makeup artistry oh so special! Here is something that makes Julie smile...

"...Johanna has tapped into a subject that I couldn't be more thrilled to blog about....things that make me smile. It doesn't take much to make me smile...a baby's laugh....the perfect lip gloss...sunshine...vanilla latte's. However, if I were to really narrow it down it would have to be this picture. It sums up so much in just one snapshot of time. This picture was taken on my sister's wedding day in 2008 which was of course an amazing moment and was so happy for her and my brother-in-law. But this particular picture from that day just makes me smile every time I see it. A friend of mine asked to take a picture of my boyfriend and I and without saying a word to each other we both decided at the same time to be goofy and do the same exact expression. We had only been together for a short period of time and already I knew I was with the best man in the world. The fact that we did the same exact thing at the same time and could be silly and have fun with each just doesn't get any better! We have been together for over two years now and have this picture framed on the wall in our house. So the thing that makes me smile is this picture and what it represents...happiness, enjoying the moment and embracing your inner dork with the one you love!"

Julie - dorks unite! I would be honored to be in your dork fan club any day of the week. Thank you!

White bean and tuna salad. This is definitely a recipe worth sharing from Martha's Everyday Food, May 2010 edition. I looked for the recipe online and it was nowhere to be found which makes me think it hasn't posted online yet. {it may be hard to read so if you're interested in getting a better version, pick it up at the grocery store or email me and I will send you a typed copy} What's great about this recipe is that it truly takes under 30 minutes to make and is uber filling. Hurrah for lentils!

A wedding celebration

If you couldn't tell...this was a very fun wedding. The boy's old roomie got married this weekend. She looked a-m-a-z-i-n-g but still managed to cut loose which is my favorite kind of bride. Congrats to Jen & PJ! Those lucky ducks are on their way to Austrailia as I type.
P.S. This is the dress I bought back in March. It was kelly green. Super fun and I took all of your advice: it covered my knees, didn't show too much skin and did not require any hiking, futzing or adjusting so thank you!
P.P.S. I never bought any of the dresses that I polled you on. Why you ask? Because by the time I made a decision to purchase; they were all sold out! The nerve!

Burying the hatchet

I am still kinda upset with over their "$1 for 1 year anniversary sale"...because it was a load of hooey and took place at 5:45am, Friday but I am working on forgiveness. Especially after I saw this beauty. Originally $405 and now $121. I can see myself wearing Thailand, no?!

Lacing up the sneaks again

photo courtesy mkc photography on Etsy
I haven't run since August. Today was my first run. Needless to say it was pretty brutal but hey, got the first one down. If I didn't have an iPod I am pretty sure I would be lying on the side of the road somewhere. Here's the start of my playlist.

Things that make me smile.

I am starting a new series on the blogeroo. "Things that make me smile..." I want to give a HIGH 5 to all the little things we take for granted in this crazy thing called life. This series is about the random items or moments that bring a smile to your face.

For was the above pumps I wore out to a rather important meeting yesterday. They are actually about 5 years old. And every time I wear said Enzo pumps I get such fun comments from people. So I've kept 'em. They are sweet and sassy and they put a little pep in my step. That's all really...just a little silly material thing that I have hung onto.

You're turn! You're turn! What about you?

Candid camera.

Graffiti art on Clark Street

How much is that doggie in the window? This is a real dog in a real window!

Cabbing it last Saturday night. At least it's not a picture in a bathroom!

Everytime I see this sign I giggle. It's a popcorn and nut shop and I am clearly very immature.

I call this "Lucy Smashface" This is after one of our infamous walks.

Photos a la Blackberry. I was without camera that weekend. Not half bad.
