Weekend wolfpack.

Yesterday proved to be the perfect Saturday. With cousins in from Arizona and Mexico...we all met up at Murphy's Bleachers pre-game. Further imbibing within the Friendly Confines, a sunburn and one Converse sneaker full of beer; we headed over to Houndstooth for some Blackhawk action. {WIN!} I will tell you this, my wolfpack went from 3 to 6 and it was indeed, a good, good time.

Things that make me smile...

photos courtesy The Spork Project
This week's edition of "Things that make me smile" hails from a beloved friend, past colleague and all-around hip chick...Miss Lisa of The Spork Project! Lisa is passionate about a lot o' things including her uber, cute boyfriend, Nick. They created this blog project documenting their love of technology, cooking, long distance relationships, coffee and! Aside from being a career girl, Lisa somehow finds time to share her colorful and creative ideas with it cooking new recipes or starting her own accessory line; this is a gal you are definitely going to want hold a weekly coffee clutch with. Here is something that makes Lisa smile...

"...Things I love: spring brunches with new friends.
I've always been blessed to have close friends constantly around. In fact, I can vividly remember days where I'd question if I'd ever have alone time again since my schedules were packed with dinners, parties, events, weddings etc. Then everything changed.

My best friends moved to: Indianapolis, San Francisco, New York and Minneapolis and my boyfriend moved to DC all within a 2-year span. Heartbreak.

With this abundance of "alone time" I've been able to learn how to cook, bake and ... force myself out there and make new friends. It's hard being a 20-something, out-of-college woman trying to meet new friends without coming off like a creep. But I managed to create a brand new circle of culinary arts pals that have changed my life. We bake and cook together and I am now teaching them how to roast homemade coffee beans.

I miss my original crew and boyfriend like crazy but having these monthly brunch parties helps fill that void and I am forever grateful. And, who doesn't love to eat?"

Lisa...I am still waiting for my brunch invitation. Kidding! Keep on inspiring and sharing those recipes with us!

Did someone say BARBEQUE?

With Memorial Day around the corner...I smell a barbie! We already have a firm guest list of family and friends coming over thus we're going to need some serious outdoor accessories. Here are a few items I've rounded up during my interweb shopping extravaganza last night. All inspired and found at Z Gallerie, Crate & Barrel and CB2. Affordable, too!

Day to night.

Recent purchase. Cotton, lightweight and fun, ruched sleeves. I love the cobalt color and it's easy to dress up with nude heels or wedges OR dress down with metallic flip flops. Endless possibilities with layered necklaces and bangles. How about a belt...pick a color! Happy summer!

Birthday Bonanza.

The weather broke and summer started officially. 85 degrees and sun! After a long day of moving on Saturday...Sunday couldn't have been more pefect. The boy took me for iced coffees in the morning, a car wash, a little light shopping {I had some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket and something had to ease the pain of turning 32...bleck} and a spontaneous lunch at the Terzo Piano terrace at the new Modern Wing of the Art Institute. It was delicious! {thanks for the tip Cara!} Finished off the day with an afternoon nap and some burgers from DMK. Welcome back Summer Sunday's; we've missed you!

Things that make me smile...

photos courtesy Pandora's Box
This week's edition of "Things that make me smile" is from a fellow blogger and fashionista, Sarah of Pandora's Box. Not only does Sarah have an eye for couture and styling but she also has a panache for art, photography and discovering the beauty in everyday landscape ranging from graffiti filled cityscapes to the beach. This twenty-something's blog is definitely one that you should add to your "favorites" because it's loaded with inspiration. Here's something that makes Sarah smile...

"...So what makes me smile? Well, tons of things. Hot coffee in the morning, new shoes, a phone call from a friend I haven't spoken to in a while. But when I was asked to think about what really makes me happy and content and thus super smiley... The beach came to mind. I grew up smack dab in the middle of New York. The only beach we had to speak of was a LAKE, so I looked forward to the summers when my mother and I would visit her best friend in Connecticut and spend all day at the ocean. Nothing made me happier than collecting shells and playing in the waves. So when it came time for me to leave home after high school, Southern California was the obvious choice.

I love the ocean and beach for many reasons. First, I'm a bit of a sun worshiper. A sun worshiper coated in SPF 30 that is. Second, nothing is more relaxing and soothing than the sounds of the ocean. It's no wonder us humans seek out a view of the ocean in times of stress. And finally, spending time at the ocean helps me detach from the Internet, my cell phone and so on and just focus on my tan and whatever book I'm reading."

Smart gal. SPF 30, check. Good reading, check. No cell phone....oooh, tough but I am with ya. Thanks for playing my fellow h2o lover!

Lord of the rings

Definitely worth sharing. I am a big fan of Etsy's new layout. Made finding this artful accessory a cinch. Was I in the market for a new show-stopping-cocktail-ring? Not so much. Am I now? Yup...definitely.

Another one bites the dust!

Yup...we had a wedding this weekend. I love these pictures for two reasons: a. the smiles are genuine and b. for the last picture we were told to look at the bride like those cheesy photos that come with new picture frames. Classic. I couldn't keep a straight face to save my life but it's definitely a "framer" don't you think?

Congrats Erin and Kevin!

Kiss & Tell

"Rich Jerk" lip stain and gloss & Huge Lips, Skinny Hips gloss in 'Limo to Lobby"
Dating…it’s a tedious game. Not for the weak or weary. Leave it to Creatrix and Entrepreneur, Karen Robinovitz, to use her serial dating experiences as the inspiration behind her line, Purple Lab. With clever product names such as ”Luvah” which is a multi-tasking lip stain and gloss housed in an oh’ so clever compact…it’s no wonder the people over at HSN have latched on to this beauty’s brain child.

If you like your glossies to shine and look utterly kissable – pay attention! Not at all tacky or heavy, Huge Lips, Skinny Hips is formulated with Hoodia which is a known appetite suppressant. Yep, all her products are multitaskers; she does live in NYC after all! This vanilla scented gloss also has plumping agents and you can choose from 8 different shades. Muah!

Sexy doesn’t stop there…choose double-duty products for eyes, cheeks and face. Mascaras named “Lashionista Modelista“, cheek stains named “Cheek Implants” and her new primer named “Pearlesque Show!” Stains, glosses, primers…oh my!

Tempt your inner ”luvah”. Purple is the new black! xo
