I saw another blog reference this acceptance speech by Tina Fey and thought it was pretty fantastic. Leave it to Fey to serve up a refreshing take on handling life's critics.

Tru details.

Mom's dessert featuring a verona, chocolate ice cream with cherry glaze.

My dessert featuring osmanthus flower ice cream with little bits of honey.

This weekend husband, mom, dad and I went to Tru to celebrate Mom and Dad's 43rd Anniversary. This was quite the dining experience for a regular girl like me. According to Tru, their cuisine could be described as:

"Offering progressive French cuisine at its finest, Tru delivers fresh ingredients, bold creativity and artistic presentation."

Artistic presentation. Check. Bold Creativity. Check. Fresh Ingredients. Check.
Most expensive bill I have ever laid eyes on. Check.

Dusk becomes night.

Last week we had the pleasure of seeing one of summer's last outdoor concerts featuring Ray LaMontagne and David Gray. The weather must have been in the lower 70's requiring a jacket as the sun dipped behind the clouds. Both artists were amazing live and it was so great to see all the Chicagoans enjoying their city and being outdoors. Everyone seemed to have a smile on their face. Afterward we strolled back to the train and walked home. That was a good night.

It reminded me of two things: 1. I love my city and 2. Live music is the best kind.

Such a softie!

A couple weekends ago I made soft pretzels for the first time. And while they kinda look like pretzel blobs, hear me out...they were just as tasty as Aunt Annie's! I bought the mix at William Sonoma. I felt like I mastered the pretzel shape pre-oven but then they blew up to be blobs after baking. I think next time I will make the pieces thinner so that they actually resemble what are intended to look like. Either way, I cut off a sliver and gave the rest away to my brother, dad's work, etc. They were so yummy that I couldn't have them in the house. Moderation, right?!

Can I get a "TGIF" up in herrre?

Hey! It's Friday...woot! Doesn't this little fawn scream par-tay? I thought you'd agree.

This has been a positively busy week but nothing a little relaxin' can't cure. All in all, I can't complain. I am putting the final touches on my work day but wanted to send happy weekend wishes your way. Cheers!

The man in the sky...

I am really geeked out. Probably wondering why, huh'? Okay, I'll tell you! I just scored tickets to see Ricky Gervais, live and at the Chicago Theater. Let it be said that I think he is one of the funniest cats in town {prospectively speaking}.

In honor and to celebrate; I present you my favorite movie with Mr. Gervais: "The Invention of Lying." Here are the reasons I quickly joined his fan club and why you should see this movie:
  1. Ricky Gervais is fantastic. I can't get enough of him. I need to see all his movies. Quite funny.
  2. I actually liked Jen in this movie. She wasn't as smarmy as she usually is.
  3. Cameos galore! Tina Fey, Rob Lowe, Jonah Hill...
  4. It's an imaginary place where everyone says what's really on their mind. Imagine? Prepare for hilarity.

Stiletto Steals

This week's edition of "Stiletto Steals" is a smidge similar to last week's but fancier in my opinion. I am adoring these Boutique 9 satin, peep toes by Nine West. Appropriately named "Girlie" - this is a pair that can go from the office to wedding and make any outfit glam in minutes. Albeit a bit of a splurge at $160, the neutral, goldie-hued pair works with almost any outfit and will elongate those gams instantly. Now all you have to check off  your list is a spray tan and you are good to go!

Then and now...

Today is my parents' anniversary! Look at these happy kids!

Cheers to many more years of love, happiness and companionship.
Love you Mom & Dad!

Full circle

It really is true that everything comes back around again in fashion. One thing I am particularly excited about is the revival of bell bottoms. I was a fan in high school and still am. Maggie pairs the trend perfectly with a graphic secretary blouse, cork wedges and a fresh coif. As the season turns, I couldn't be more thrilled to pull mine back out sporting the thrift store gem I wrote about here. I love discovering new outfits within the depths of my closet. {see husb, that's why you never get rid of clothing! I am actually saving us money!}

Age is just a number.

Did you know Betsey Johnson just turned 68? You wouldn't classify her as a senior citizen by the looks of this picture would you? Or any picture for that matter! I've always loved this designer's youthful clothing line and accessories but more importantly, her attitude on life. That and the fact that she completes every runway show with a cartwheel. Gotta give the girl props...

"Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves, and of course, each other. If girls dressed for boys, they’d just walk around naked at all times."

Rebel without...

an occasion to wear these hot, leather pants! I am salivating over this Isabel Marant piece. All parts sexy and sophisticated. Only problem is that they are an entire paycheck. Is it too early to put on the list for Santa?

Market days

Even though Summer is coming to an end, I finally got an opportunity to attend Farmer Markets two weekends in a row. It's hard not to over-buy when everything is so ripe, colorful and delicious. But then again, there are worse things to be indulging on. Plus, Lucy really likes socializing with the other city pups.

I see the light!

Hi readers. How are you? Not sure about you but this was a lonnnnnnnng week. But! I have some fun activities planned...yes, I am seeing Eat, Pray, Love tonight {read both books}; a baseball game and Sunday will be a day of rest{hopefully}.

What are you up to? Relish these last summer weekends...football season has started. And once again, the Bears are not looking too hot. One word - typical.

Outfit of the Day

I have to share my favorite piece I scored while shopping in Bangkok. These PANTS! They seem dowdy and I was a bit skeptical of the whole "harem" look but you haven't lived until you have tried them out for yourself. They were a mere 240 baht which translates to $8.00 dollars. Wha the wha? Great for the plane, lounging, pilates, eating too much...the list goes on. It's hard to tell but they actually gather at the ankle with a simple band which helps give them their balloon shape. I plan on sporting these with wedges while it's still warm, sequin tops and more. You have to be careful though, the top has to be fitted otherwise the whole outfit comes across sloppy.

The deets:
  • Olive harem pants: Bangkok street market
  • White tee: Alloy {it was a 2-for deal. They have the best tees}
  • Gladiator sandals: Bakers
  • Bracelet: Phuket street vendor
The occasion: Shopping at the weekend market

Has anyone seen these pants here in the states? If so, gimme the scoop. I regret not buying a second pair.

Stiletto Steals

This week's edition of "Stiletto Steals" comes from another online gem - Lulu's. It's safe to say that this website is at a tie with F21 for me. I think the quality is bit better though. I digress...I love these lil' peepers! It's no secret that everything is NUDE this season - camels, taupes, blushes - tis' the season and while some of these colors make me look washed out; I think I have found an alternative to keep on trend. Take this season's neutrals and put 'em on your feet! Qupid's suede, ruffle peep toe is just the fix. You can pair this shoe with everything under the sun and still manage to keep on budget. For $29...this is a must and another pair of stilettos that you will get major mileage out of!
