  5. Some of the things that seem so big and catastrophic are really just small and insignificant; especially down the line.
  6. One should laugh at least a minimum of 3x's a day.
  7. Sometimes there is nothing like swearing to get the point across. {sorry Mom}
  8. Getting old and feeling old are two different things. I am not getting old. I am just getting to the good stuff!
  9. I would rather taste and eat amazing food then worry about being model skinny. It's really exhausting.
  10. Biting your tongue is hard at times but truly your best bet.

What to wear on NYE?

photo courtesy F21
The question really is...what do you wear on NYE when you are sporting a mini bump and NOTHING fits? Oh and here's the kicker...maternity wear is a real bummer! You could torture yourself like I have been doing and try 17 dresses on and exchange, re-exchange and keep your fingers crossed for the try-on session at home because there is no way you are braving the dressing rooms in H& could just go back to what works. The ol' standby - Forever 21.

...cuz I did all of the above and was just about to resign to wearing a garbage bag when I thought I would give it one more shot and fell upon this sparkler. Admittedly, it looks much better on a non-pregnant woman however there is no elastic, no funky just fits like a glammed up sheath dress. And for $35, the detail is pretty great. I never thought I would don purple for NYE but it works. And because I can't resist genius merchandising and displays; I ended up walking out with a pair of Valentino knock off, black pumps and a clutch to complete the outfit. All under $100. Thank you Fashion Gods.

Eve of the Eve Night Walk

On the Eve of the Eve, husband and I set out for a night walk. With a couple extra layers...this could have been my favorite walk of the year.  The city was in full-on holiday mode and it was contagious. As you can see, there was a lot to capture so I apologize for the abundance of pictures. We couldn't help ourselves!

A different country...

photo courtesy net-a-porter
I picture white, sandy beaches and cobble stone streets lined with little shops and outdoor cafes. I picture older men in suits leaning in door ways, smoking cigars and young ladies with bronzed skin, politely sipping caprihanas as they wipe beads of sweat from their forehead.

Clearly these shoes would go perfectly with every maxi dress, sundress, swishy skirt or cargo pant around...just sayin'.

I think it's time to plan a 2011 vacation, ASAP!

Scrubs made with love...

I was feelin' crafty this past weekend. {I, whaaa?} Crafty and inspired by this blog post which I have professed my love for before here. And since I love my beauty products as much as I love life itself...I got to hard is it to make a body scrub and how cool a gift would that be?! So...I did it. And it was fun! And the whole downstairs smelled like an herb-y apothecary.

Here's the recipe:
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of almond oil
  • 1/2 tsp of vitamin E
  • 6 drops of rosewood oil
  • 4 drops of lavender
Now stir and pack into the jar or container of your choice! I doubled the recipe for the containers I bought at Michael's because more is more. Make or buy your own tags and ribbon and tharrrr you go. Quite excited to give these out.

{Truth be told, I can't see why I would ever need to purchase another body scrub again. This is so easy to make and the options/scents are endless}

Take 1...or 2 or 3...

Pretty City's holiday parties are a tad bit different than most company parties. And because our mantra has a little something to do with helping women feel beautiful from the inside, could say the holidays give us a chance to pamper ourselves after a year of hard work. I like that about our company.

So what did we do last week to celebrate? We went to Tease Salon and received glam makeovers while sipping sophisticated martinis before heading out for a fancy dinner. I think this was my favorite holiday party to date. Each coworker was enhanced to a more beautiful version of themselves. And...they experimented! Oh did they experiment! What was normally pin straight hair became big, Victoria's Secret curls and bold, sexy eyes. It was such a blast!
Tiffany transforming into a blonde bombshell!

Susan turned into an eyelash battin' vixen!

Donna went for the smokey eye.

Carolyn went for big volume and red lips. And Audrey experimented with fake eyelashes!

The most hilarious part of the evening was getting everyone together for a group photo...
it's like herding cats. Observe below...not so much.

 This was the closest we got!

 ...and we're back to a blurry photo!
Good times, good times.

Chapstick - a conspiracy?

photo courtesy Google Images
The colder it gets…the more chapped my lips get. And sometimes you just can’t wear lipstick. Today my friends, I have a question for you. What is your go-to “healing” lip product during the winter?

Sure. I have a box of lip balms, salves, chapsticks, pots….it’s all the same. You know what my problem is? None of them work. In fact, the more I use them…the worst my lips feel. So, yes – I do believe there is an addictive ingredient in those so-called “chapsticks” because the only way your lips feel better is continual application but really, it’s temporary relief. As in 5 minutes and the burning, flaking, cracking symptoms seem to flare up again. How could this be? Then you have those lovely products that contain cancer carcinogens. Or the ones that smell like a fresh baked cupcake but literally slide off your lips faster than you can say “red velvet”.

Normally I like to be a beauty product tester and expert but this is plain exhausting. The other night my lips were burning so bad that it was not until I applied my MAC lip glass that literally the sensation dissipated. {Note: don’t order a buffalo chicken salad when your lips are chapped! Yow!}

But hey, no one likes a Negative Nancy so I will tell you about one product that I am falling in love with. Liz Earle “Superbalm”.

photo courtesy Liz Earle
Not only does this product do the work of several, as in it can be used on heels, elbows, cuticles AND lips, but it’s made from pure plant oils and shea butter. Think Vitamin E, rosehip and lavender. When I apply it, I actually feel like all the little plant personalities are coming together and massaging my lips. Too much? Fine. If you don’t believe me…try it for yourself. And if you do – leave a comment and let me know your review OR favorite product on the market.

Chocolate Won Tons

Last night, my girl Tiff and I baked up some Christmas confections for our company party tomorrow. We opted for a Martha recipe: Chocolate Won Tons. And while we were a little nervous at testing the waters for the first time with no practice...I can confidently tell you that these little morsels turned out delish. So delish that Tiff refused to take any extra for fear of consuming more on her way home. Here's the recipe:
  • Won Ton wrappers
  • 3 oz. Ghirardelli milk chocolate morsels/chunks
  • 2.5 cups of vegetable oil
  • 2 cups of confectioner's sugar
  • 2 large eggs
First crack an egg into a small ramekin and beat rapidly. Next lay out your won tons on a flat surface. Take a brush and dip into the beaten egg mixture and paint the edges of your won ton for sticking purposes. Grab five small Ghirardelli morsels/chunks and line them in the middle or your won ton. Fold won ton over and press the edges firmly to seal the insides where the egg was painted. Finally, heat up your skillet with 2.5 cups of vegetable oil and place five or six won tons in at a time. Let them fry up for two minutes, flipping occasionally. Upon removal, drain won tons on a kitchen or paper towel and then immediately drop into 2 cups of confectioner's sugar until evenly coated on both sides.

Voila! Our company colors are vibrant pinks and oranges so we wrapped a handful of won tons in plastic baggies and wrote custom fortunes to be placed in bright carry-out containers like the above. Adorn with a decorative ribbon and you are on your way.

Enjoy - they are addicting!

A proper Friday.

photo courtesy Bergdorf Goodman via Coco + Kelley
It's Friday, my dears and according to the ol' calendar...there aren't too many Friday's left in 2010! 3 more! It's crazytown to think another year has gone by. I've been busy trying to squeeze out what work is left of this year before everyone checks out for the holidays. Or has that happened already? Anyhoo...on to some holiday parties and festivities. I hope you have a lovely weekend filled with hot cocoa, too many shopping bags to carry and many a tasty morsel! xo
