After an agonizing night of practically no sleep, the verdict is in and it's a...GIRL! Holy! I thought it was a boy for sure but her lady parts were pretty distinctive this morning. That is after we got her to flip over with a lot of nudging. She even made a muscle for us and was contorting her body in all these funky positions. Perhaps a gymnast? A ballerina?

All I know is come 6 o'clock tonight, I am scooping up all those striped tights, dresses and onesies that have been sitting in several shopping carts for months. Ahhhh!

Also! Today marks my Lucy-girl's 5th birthday. We can't leave her out. We're going to have a house full of ladies! Wahoo!

Guess what?

Guess what? Guess what? Today is the day we find out if that little mango is a he or a she. Are you excited? I am excited. {I understand if you aren't as excited as me...that makes sense.}

What is your vote? Boy? Girl? Lilliputian?

I promise to reveal the test results when I get home!!

I hope it never goes away...

...the romper that is. Perfect for errands or the days where you don't want to wear a dress but want to appear polished and dressed up. If you are "small chested" - they add a little oomph upstairs and if you are "big chested" - you get a uni-boob. I am just kidding...I don't know what happens if your cups runneth over with rompers. This romper comes in tan or black and I favor the tan...because if you haven't been beaten over the head already...NEUTRAL is the new black this season. And if you really want to drink the kool-aid, buy a coral blazer or clutch and you will be the coolest kitten in town.

Hey...don't mention it. Enjoy your new purchase.

Shout out!

photo courtesy Patterson Maker
I just wanted to give a shout out to some of my regular commenters in the last month or two. Aka my "little rays of sunlight". I think you ladies are the bee's knees and I wanted to say thank you for your enthusiastic responses, opinions, votes of motivation and kind words. This one goes out to Gloria, Ashleigh, Lena, Things to Do, Mel, Emily, Diana and Kate. {I hope I am not missing anyone!}

And...if you are new to this blog - go check out their blogs. They are some of the brightest, creative, down-to-earth bloggers I know and have become daily reads for me like my cup of jo in the morning!

And, and...if you recently joined my blog this week or left a sweet note about my crazy vacation welcome, welcome, welcome! Thank you for visiting!

This happened...

Remember I told you we had some seriously, hilarious moments on this trip?'s some of the evidence. Day 3 of our trip included a 2.5 hour car trip to a sleepy, beach town called Buzios, just outside of Rio. Picture six, enterprising 30-something's all geared up with maps and snacks for the road. Then picture hour two of the trip - of course the ladies need a restroom stop. Car #2, a Fiat, won't turn over. Doesn't start. Oh yeah, and it was about 85 degrees out and we have no clue where we are nor do we speak the language. Awesome.

Somehow, several hours later {three to be exact!} our little Fiat started up again thanks to the kind Brazilians that helped us with a new battery. That and several broken down car illustrations and a translation book while we attempted to communicate that our car did not blow up but rather the battery died. Back on the road and we arrived to Buzios six hours later.

P.S. Doesn't the man in the orange tow suit look like a Brazilian Ralph Macchio?

P.P.S. This wasn't the first of our car troubles. Not kidding.

Can we talk?

Spring gets my fashion motor running only this Spring, things are a little different...proportionally for me. I feel like Topshop is toying with my emotions thus I wanted to list my favorite, new finds and then I want someone to go buy them and send me a picture of how they styled it. Yeah...that would make me feel better. You guys ok with that?
Petite Yellow Sun Spot Pussybow Blouse

Woven Tassle Wedges by Unique**

Cream Lace Panel Dress

SUGAR Camel Patent Mary Jane Platform Shoes

Rose Seventies Wide Leg Trousers

Knotted Bandeau Dress by Rare Opulence**
All found here!

In other news, people have been telling me to kiss my high heels good-bye from now to eternity because moms don't wear heels. You know what I think? I think that's a bunch of hooey. the halfway mark...I get safety over trend. But when this small lilliputian decides to make an appearance; all bets are off. And since we are on the subject, no...I refuse to get a minivan. And yes, I will consider the suburbs but you aren't going to sell me on the features of minivans and how easy access they are for the kids. {no offense minivan owners} You have my word.

This blog post is dedicated to a super, hip stylin' mama who never succumbed to how moms are supposed to look or dress. My hero, CB.

This was our last day in Copacabana. Always a melancholy day...the final day of any trip you've been waiting to go on for what seems like ages. But first, let's not forget some of the highlights -- in random order:
  • Baby really likes empanadas. This was the first time husband got to feel some major ninja kicks consecutive days in a row.
  • I partied...hard. Like I stayed out until 2am some nights. {I know...impressive}
  • I now understand the infatuation with frozen yogurt because I ate it the last 3 days in a row.
  • Beach days...lots of 'em; filled with sandy bathing suits and flip flop blisters = success.
  • Old and new friends. We made them. We started out as a group of friends and acquaintances but left as a family who had been through some seriously, hilarious debacles.
  • Portuguese. This is a tough language but I now know how to say "bathroom" "thank you" "hello" and "darn it".
  • Sunburn. Didn't get any! {aren't you proud Mom?}
  • Awesome sandals and flip flops...3 new pairs. Can I get a HI-5?
  • Sleeping in. We did it and it was awesome.
  • Reading two new books: Keith Richards' autobiography and "One Day".
  • Tan hands. The true hallmarks of a successful trip anywhere.

Not-so-speedy delivery

This...this guy really got the short end of the stick during the first part of our vaca. Husband's luggage never arrived. Never. Mine took 48 hours and that was sheer torture despite the short shopping spree that ensued. But back to husband. Somewhere a Brazilian is wearing rich, chocolate loafers, striped draw-string pants and some lovely linen shirts. I hope he remembers to take the tags off his new, Nordstrom bathing trunks, too.

These...these guys were the most comfortable Nikes I've ever owned. These sneaks were stolen out of my luggage in Sao Paulo. I suppose I should be mad/sad but when compared to husband's suitcase mishap...I really shouldn't complain at all. No.... It was still a great trip but you should know that this happened. And so did some other adventures that I will share with you later this week. One word: adventure.

Pardon me...

Hello. I've missed you. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm but it's the first day back and this quote speaks volumes for how I feel. Gimme 24 hours...

Mango and other related fruit items

photo courtesy Google Images
People ask me all the time what food I am craving. At first I thought it was a old wives tale. You know the kind where the pregnant wife wakes up her peacefully sleeping husband only to beg him to run out to the store in the middle of the night for pickles and ice cream? You know what I am talking about, right?! Well...I don't see myself doing that but I can tell you there is one food that I think about quite often. Mangoes. I can't pass them up in the store and buy 2 boxes at a time. I crave them and think about them morning, noon and night. And after talking to my sister in law, I suppose there are worse things to be binging on since all you get to pack on is a measly 25 lbs throughout the entire pregnancy. Yes, I said ENTIRE. I can achieve that weight in my sleep. ...'till then it's champagne wishes and mango spear dreams.

Did you crave anything in particular?

In other news, baby is the size of a large mango this week. How about that?

Savoring Friday

photo source unknown
What is it about those few moments of vacation that seem to go by so quickly? Time stands still when you are charged and ready to board that plane...and in a fleeting moment, the week has passed and it's back to reality. With that, I am going to savor these last few drops of sun. Hope your week went swimmingly!

What'd I miss? More importantly, what kind of weather am I coming back to? xo

Fine art

photo courtesy Google Images and Cade Martin Photography via Apple Tea
Ever since Black Swan debuted, I've been ecstatic at all the love ballet is getting. From fashion to photography to the cinema to rap videos...this girl is in heaven! I found out about Cade Martin, photographer of the above images, via Apple Tea. It was love at first sight. Such creativity that I find myself going back to stare at these images over and over again. The first photo is my favorite because ballerinas always appear to have a prissy air to them...really, they are just tired, sore and hungry. Kidding...well, sort of. Enjoy!

In search of new sunnies...

photo courtesy Monica Rose
Somewhere between 2004 and 2011, I lost track of what's cool in eyewear. I have a beat up pair of Chanels that I will always cherish and keep; the rest is all F21 cheapies. Now that I don't love you, F21, but it's time for a big girl purchase. What's cool in eyewear lady friends? Who's your new go-to designer? Help a sister out...I'm ready to take the plunge.

Glass half FULL.

...boy if that ain't the truth, I don't know what is! Nothing particularly bad happened this week. I just saw this and it made me laugh. I know my singing voice is the worst. I also know someone who thinks his voice is actually pretty good. Jury's out on that one.

Happy Friday people!

Class is in session

I talked to my mom the other day after showing her these pics and she remarked how cute my cookies looked with the stencils I used. Whaaa? Stencils, schmencils?! I started my cake decorating class and that is free hand, yo! If I am going to do's gonna be fur realz. So...Day 1 of my 4 week class. We learned how to make true, buttercream frosting, cake from scratch and stars with our icing bags. Amazing how a cookie can make you feel accomplished. Story of my life.

We're pretty short and the husband. I couldn't resist taking a picture last Wednesday as the snow came to mid-thigh on him. I mean, we got hit with some serious snow! Sadly, Lucy did not make this shot as she had to be carried in. Her paws were frozen...that's what she told me.

Pregnancy Survival Kit

I saw this on another blog that I adore and I thought...well, what are my pregnancy must-haves?
Now you know! {E...yours were fantastic!}

  1. Basq Stretch Mark Butter: So far, so good. And it smells like roses which can never be a bad thing!
  2. Long and Lean tank tops: The best $8 I've spent. Perfect for layering and they have every color in the book. {find these in the Juniors, Mossimo section!}
  3. Mandarin Orange Spice tea: I get bored with drinking gallons of water and this is an alternative to my citrus cravings, decaf of course!
  4. Maybelline's "Are You Red-dy": I've finally found the red lipstick of my dreams.
  5. Snoogle Body Pillow: Weird, yes. Equivalent to drinking NyQuil. It knocks me out that fast.
  6. Navel oranges: I can't get enough. A weekly item on the grocery list.
  7. Breton striped tees: I bought mine @ Old Navy. Cheap and chic; looks cute on your burgeoning belly.
  8. Gap Gstretch pants: I repeat, these are not maternity BUT they fit no matter what stage you are in. The best!
  9. Pangea Tangerine & Thyme Facial Toner: I spray it on my face every morning...makes waking up just a little big easier. Paraben free, too.
  10. Say Yes to Cucumbers Wipes: I keep these on my nightstand for the evenings I am too tired to drag my butt to the bathroom to rinse my makeup off. Lifesaver. {98.7% all natural ingredients, too}

Little library

I know I have more books somewhere but I can't seem to locate them since the move. So for's the start of a little library. I was pretty ecstatic at last weekend's finds - the Foo Dog. They are made for bookshelves. I am not 100% satisfied with the look and feel of these shelves but it's a work in progress. I go back and forth between stacking books vertically by color or just a haphazard display with well placed trinkets. How have you arranged your shelves? Any tips?
