I hope this gets to you.

Who needs love letters when you can have your very own love video? Well, I know one thing...I hope this gets to her because her boyfriend/significant other is way cool for creating this. Have a watch!

Him

photo courtesy Alison Yin Photography
The top 5 things I appreciate about my husband...just in case he needs a reminder:
  1. You take care of the big stuff and the little stuff - bills and light bulbs. {I am horrible at both}
  2. You always make me feel pretty even when that seems like a stretch the more rotund I get.
  3. You work really hard at your job and your family. Not an easy balance but you make time for both.
  4. You're really passionate about specific topics...wine, saving money and organization, to name a few. Sometimes it makes me giggle, other times it makes me grumble but all in all, it's fun to listen to you.
  5. You don't sweat the small stuff. You're a glass half full kinda guy and that is SO nice when I've had a bad day. Plus you listen to me vent and then re-vent 8 hours later all over again.
I hope I can reciprocate some of this back but then again...some of these are my weaknesses, truly. Thank you for being such a good husband and future daddy-to-be. {and for letting me have the outside of the couch}

Continuing the trend...

The moms came up with a baby shower theme that I can definitely get behind...shoes. Baby shoes, as a matter of fact. If you know me, you'd know that I have more shoes than I need but nonetheless, I am always prepared for any occasion. The true hallmarks of any woman in my humble. Although this theme is not brand new, it really speaks to my personality so I can't help but get excited. My mom wants to incorporate different shoes and sizes into the actual decor. Lucky baby girl will acquire a nice collection post shower. {nodding and golf clapping!} My only prerequisite was that the shower not scream pepto pink and so I give you some recent shoe picks that brought a smile to my face and a whole lot of color to her blossoming wardrobe.

For the Sophisticate...

photo courtesy Lonny Magazine
I look at this photo and I want to jump into it. Literally. It's simple yet detailed. The striped walls bowl me over but the setee and the dainty table and chairs charm me to pieces. Now why in the world didn't I think of this? A question I ask myself weekly...

I qualify for this!

On Saturday I registered with the help of a friend and got to park HERE! I never win anything or get special privileges. But, I did proudly park my little vehicle here and snap this picture to share. Whoa. More proof this is happening!

And! Baby Girl is the size of an eggplant this week. That's a weird visualization inside your stomach but hey...we've moved out of the fruit category!

Girl-crush Friday

photo courtesy Patterson Maker
Have you guys caught on yet that I have a major girl-crush on Ms. Paltrow. She's the epitome of cool and extraordinarily talented. One minute she is laid-back, urban mom and the next she is singing at the Oscars in liquid, Calvin Klein. I gotta say...this woman continues to turn up the hotness the older she gets. Do you concur?

Enough about my idol...it's Friday. Let's enjoy the weekend!

Unrelated: Did you happen to catch the Gaga interview with Google this week? I have a new found respect for her and I keep forgetting that she's only 24. Cripes. Anyway, definitely watch it but carve out some time because it's an hour long. Totally worth it though...she's incredibly down-to-earth.

Also unrelated: Husband informed me this morning that her new song is kinda catchy.

Litany of Love

  1. Check out this modern take on the cuckoo clock.
  2. Talk about a genius necklace. Spell it out in Morse code.
  3. Such a killer dress.
  4. Apparently paisley is back, too!
  5. Interested in a beauty quickie?
  6. I ♥ these and I have them in neon pink. But guess what? I got the knock off in Brazil and they were cheap!
  7. I can't wait to see this documentary!
  8. How to search Etsy like a pro courtesy Lonny. Yes!
  9. Speaking of...I love this sweet little table.
  10. Who doesn't like a little manly vintage?
  11. Isn't this skirt gorgeous?
  12. Her mood boards inspire the "happy" in me. And then I want to color code my closet.

Just a little patience...

photo courtesy sibling rivalrie
I think this picture sums up how I feel this week. Kind of annoyed. {this lil' guy looks annoyed, too. like someone forgot to take him out} Nothing horrific, just a lot of canceled meetings which is in fact, quite frustrating. That's one pet peeve of mine, cancellations. But hey...you know what they say about lemons...make a lemon drop. God, I would love a lemon drop right now.

I try to avoid the "Debbie Downer" posts but sometimes you just feel uninspired. Fear not people, it's not permanent. Chin up, right? Righhhhhhhht.

Hope your week is going much smoother than mine.

Making room for baby.

I'm super excited to share two mood boards we were presented for baby girl's nursery. Let me just say that I could not be more pleased and this blogger of my little apartment really nailed our taste. Also, let this be a lesson to never underestimate the powers of the blogging community. There is some tremendous talent out there and the reason these mood boards came about was very simple: it started with one email, some unrelenting praise {me} and a meeting - look at the results!

Dean has a day job but her passion is in "creating". She is an interior/event designer and has just begun to establish her own biz called South Social & Home. I have endless admiration for entrepreneurs and this lil' blogger has cultivated quite an amazing following for her burgeoning business.

The big question is - what do you like? Why? Love to hear your feedback...
Can't wait to unveil our final choice as July approaches!

Curious what's in our beauty closet?

When this program was first conceptualized by our team, it was hard to not let out a squeal of excitement. I mean...where can you shop exclusive, hard-to-find, luxury brands and get 50% off every product just for being a loyal reader? Oh and by the way...it's 50% off BEAUTY PRODUCTS! This is like the ultimate Christmas list year-round and I am happy to share with you that it launches 3/21/11! Credit cards ready? Did you memorize that security code on the back? Make sure to quiz yourself because these products won't last forever. In fact, we're only selling 50 total on a weekly basis. Eeps! Did I mention it's free shipping? Oh yeah...there's that, too! The only way to snatch your loot up is to become a subscriber, it's free! Go here and look in the right hand corner to submit your email address.

The real question is...what brands or products do you want to see in our closet?

Argh...I gave up shopping for Lent. One of my more genius ideas. But then I saw this...and it's only $10. Can I get it? No, I can't get it...can I? I shoulda gave up swearing. Stupid @#$%*!

For Japan, With Love.

Image and copy courtesy Le Petite Coquin
The devastation in Japan following an 8.9 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami stopped us all in our tracks; the images of so much destruction were heartbreaking. Lydia of Ever Ours and Lucy of Utterly Engaged weren't content to watch the news in stunned silence though, so they started an amazing relief effort and encouraged their fellow bloggers to spread the love.

All the donations to For Japan, With Love will go to ShelterBox, which provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters. ShelterBox is already helping the Japanese recover from this staggering tragedy, giving out their large, green ShelterBoxes. Each is tailored to a particular disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.

In addition to donations, they have started a Bloggers' Day of Silence in honor of the tragedy. My blog and many others will be silent on Friday, March 18th, and I hope you'll join us in this show of support.

If you're interested in participating, contact Lydia {lydia@ever-ours.com} or Lucy {info@utterlyengaged.com} for more information.

Slainte!

Last Saturday we ventured into the Loop to see the Chicago River go from
army green to clover green...and it was festive!
No shortage of green attire ranging from polyester pants to Lucky Charms hats!

Almost there...

Not really a fan of hippos per se...I couldn't help but find absolute delight in this innovative mini-bar. Wouldn't this make Friday Happy Hour that much more fun?

Fashion crisis?!

I pride myself on having somewhat of a distinct style. I am not preppy but I can be edgy or polished or laid back. I would say I'm pretty girlie to the core. In my own way. I don't have the biggest budget but I try to develop my own "Johanna-style" whatever that is. And as I've gotten older, and sometimes cringe looking back at old photos, I think I've figured out what silhouettes look good on my body and make me feel confident.

Yeah so, confidence is a tricky thing when you have a house hanging off you. And as miraculous as the whole thing is...it really forces you to play upon different assets. This brings me to my current dilemma. I have a wedding on the books next month and quite frankly, I'd like to feel kinda good about the way I look. You still want to look hot no matter what the scale says, right? Or is it just me? Maybe I'm being superficial here but it's the little things - blow outs, the right shade of lipstick, a fresh pedicure...you know.

I need your help more than ever, readers. Help me find a dress for this wedding. It's in the city at a gorgeous church and the reception is fancy but not black tie. Remember, fitted waists = no bueno. I'll show you what I found and you can chime in. {And my budget: I can't fathom spending $200, $300 on some of those formal maternity dresses so I am trying to be cost-conscious but fashionable. Capiche?}

Song of the week.

It's pretty rare a sophomore album is better than the first. In this blog's early days I professed my love for Adele. Well, turns out she is back and this album is so so good. And "Rumour Has It" is my favorite song. Can you imagine having a voice like hers? I'd sing with the windows down all the time and don't even get me started on karaoke...

Delayed dinner

Valentine's Day fell on our first day in Brazil however we encountered so many catastrophes that we scrapped it and delayed the "holiday" all together. When we got back we decided to spontaneously celebrate it on a Saturday evening and cook dinner. New recipes are my faves and these did not disappoint. Husband made dates stuffed with manchego cheese, wrapped in bacon!! I made turkey kebabs with a tomatillo salsa and together we made stuffed portobello mushrooms with spinach, tomato, onion and bread crumbs. It was delightful but I'm afraid we were a little over zealous as we were totally stuffed by the time the mushrooms rolled out. I think we cooked for a family of 6...normal. BUT! Dessert...we don't skip dessert at my house. I found an amazing recipe in Everyday Food for mini-mocha cheesecakes, pictured above. They were so easy to make and tasted...well, ridiculous. I froze the rest of the batch for my parents.

I highly recommend all 4 recipes...no experience required! Let me know if you want the other 2 recipes!

Can we just talk about how cute these are? I know they are cheapies but if you need to incorporate a little RAWR in your life, me thinks this is definitely a safe way to do it.

Bath Time!

photo courtesy Me Bath!
So! As I mentioned, last week wasn't my best but it ended on a high note. Husband insisted I try a bath and I obliged. I've been a little skeptical of baths since le bebe but it was the best thing ever. Know what made it so great? These guys. I was gifted two bath bombs for Christmas and completely underestimated their powers. Once you drop it in the bath tub, its effervescent qualities explode and it distributes oils and glitter all over until the ice cream scoop is completely dissolved. My skin was ultra soft and was left with a little sparkle. And the smell...amazing! According to Me Bath!, the ingredients include:

"A sweet, fruity scent with notes of juicy peach, mango, strawberry and mandarin, succulant apple blossom, tamarind, and coconut milk blended with smooth chords of vanilla, precious woods and musk. Blended with mica to add a soft shimmer to the water."

I didn't even need lotion post-bath. Seriously, buy these bath bombs!! There are so many flavors to choose from. This one and this one are next on my list! {ahem...birthday idea for the fam...}

AND IN OTHER NEWS...baby girl is the size of a papaya this week. Wow.
