Ok, Fall - I know you're around the corner...

The weakest link in my wardrobe has got to be trousers. It's been awhile since I've owned a cube in corporate america hence a wardrobe that now consists of flirty dresses, skirts, denim and smart jackets. That was until I received the J.Crew Fall catalog this week.

I am seriously salivating over the new cafe capri wool trouser. The colors are juicy. Think yacht blue, baked citron and bright dahlia. In fact, I want all 3! And yes, $118 is an investment however if you've ever owned a pair  J.Crew trousers...chances are you still have them hanging in your closet.

What's on your Fall wish list? You know mine!

I've decided...

I've decided that it's high time I splurge on another investment bag. It's been years since I bought my first. The Chloe Paraty bag is officially on the wish list. In size medium, please.

So darlings...Friday it is, eh'? Kinda a long week. Not gonna lie. But I did have the fortunate experience of making it to the salon for a cut and color and BOY! I feel like a new woman. Amazing how that works 'huh?

This weekend we have a 1 year old birthday {hoorah} and that's about it! I love shopping for kid birthdays. Toys...books...dolls...such fun stuff.

    Get the Look: Coffee Date

Today I woke up and all I could think about was a gigantic coffee. Iced, please. Since the bean is on my mind, this collage pays homage to my favorite drink as well as a "wish list" ensemble that would be perfectly lovely to don on such an occasion. Stay caffeinated!

      The girl from Ipanema...

Pretty sure I found her. See!
I was browsing through pictures from this year's Brazil trip. {see above and here} And on a gloomy day like today, a good book by the ocean sounds just about right. Ahhh vacation mode. Which has me thinking...

      What's your next vacation?

I think ours will most likely be a Mexico or California trip but who knows!
I've had my eye on Turkey and London for quite some time now.

      Scenes from the weekend

We spent a spectacular weekend as tourists in celebration of our anniversary. Chicago is good in the summer! Being able to spend aimless hours in a museum or walk through one of our parks is a luxury that we don't get to enjoy all that often. Here are a few snaps of our favorite sites.

      Is there a better skyline?

Can you find O and I?

      The ever popular Bean...

Super cool stairs @ the Art Institute

      The Modern Wing

      ...and the lovely Buckingham Fountain.

This is a post of gratitude. {I'm sorry this is overdue!} A post of thanks. As in I am grateful for the past two months of kind notes and comments you have left while Olivia was in the hospital. As in thank you for being such great cyber friends. I wish I could scoop you all up and give you a big cyber hug. Better yet, a real hug in person. Sadly, I cannot BUT if you are ever in Chicago on a visit -- look a girl(s) up. We should meet for a sweet treat! And for the locals, you know who you are, I owe you a hug next time I see you...and a glass of the good stuff.

And to the guest bloggers - you guys are the best! And way more creative than I will ever be. Thank you!

Your support means so much to our little family.
      The power of positive energy!!

      Mommy Morsels

I'm starting a new series on the blog and it centers around my new title: Mom. While I don't proclaim to know it all - I can share with you the tips, tools and life savers that have made my life easier these past couple months. And...I'd love to hear from you, too! Anything that hushes a crying child is worth sharing!

Today's Mommy Morsel is one I've grown quite attached to. A company by the name of Aden + Anais has created the most amazing muslin swaddles for babies. Infants become instantly less fussy and Olivia uses the swaddle daily from keeping her warm on a cool day to shielding her precious skin from the sun. Great for nap time, too!

While they aren't inexpensive, they are worth every penny! I'm already saving to buy another so that I don't have to wash hers everyday! Olivia has the caterpillar one pictured below.

      super stars swaddle

Trust me, this is a great gift. Your girlfriends might not get it upon unwrapping the gift but they will undoubtedly thank you later! xo

      A penny for your thoughts?

I have a question for you dear readers. Over the last few months I've been debating on hiring someone for a blog design project. You know...spruce up the home page...add some professional pizazz...clear out the clutter...and most importantly, find a design that suits the content and my personality. I've been admiring quite a few from my little spot on the couch at night and it's got a girl thinking...

      • Have you had your blog professionally designed?
      • Was it worth your hard earned pennies?
      • Would you recommend it & who would you recommend that is reasonably priced?
      • Does it matter if the designer is local or not?
      Pro/Cons...I want to hear 'em.

      Effortless Friday

The single greatest thing about summer is by far...the effortless, listless days that blend into night accompanied by easy dinners on the grill, long talks on the patio and bottomless glasses of wine. Don't you think? Know what else is wonderful? Effortless fashion. I am inspired by this photo to cut a pair of old jeans this weekend. What are your plans?

Whatever it is...I hope it's fabulous with plenty of AC!

      Litany of Love

      1. Perfect stylings for orange pants. Score!
      2. I would love this painting over my bed. So pretty.
      3. A Chicago bike map journal - very rad.

      10. Natalia has such a wonderful innocence and I love each outfit styling.
      11. Apothecary jar heaven. Need some of these for the house...such a pretty way to store things.

      Project Nursery: complete! Huzzah!

Were you guys wondering if this project was ever completed? I can understand. Well, you no longer have to stay up at night wondering because it is FINISHED! Lady O has a pretty spectacular room if you ask me. I like being in it and I can just picture her reading books in the glider or watching her hoist herself up with the help of her pouf. And if you're wondering who the brainchild of this design should definitely check out Dean's blog and new baby: South Social & Home.

      Here are the before pics...

P.S. Check out my guest post on Meagan's blog today! We will  miss her!

      Styling a pencil skirt...

I came across this image and a light bulb went off. You see, I bought a similar style {fuchsia} pencil skirt from Zara this past June. This image above is from DSquared. Any pencil skirt is a no brainer, really. But when it got down to it...I wanted to create an original look, something refreshing. I let out an audible gasp when I stumbled upon this picture. A simple, neutral cardigan paired with a white tank and bright shoes...hello?! Now, I can't wait to give my new skirt a test drive!

How do you style your pencil skirts?

      Photo shoot

So, Olivia had her first photo shoot...and I am a smitten kitten with the end result. I am forever grateful and fortunate to have met the lovely Danielle who graciously offered her time and patience to capture the lil' Miss. Our paths crossed at a blogger's event and I am so very glad they did! If you haven't checked out her blog, please do. It's loaded with inspiration and creativity. Speaking of, Miss Danielle has no shortage of skills. I left our get-together thinking how much I admired her ambition and entrepreneurial style. Thank you so very much, Danielle!

      Get the Look: Date Night

      You hardly need to give me an excuse to dress up. Such that date night is always cause for flirty dresses and sky high heels. Nowadays, the date nights are few and far between so when the opportunity arises - you can bet I am going to use the mood board below as inspiration for my next ensemble! {I'm not sure husband would recognize me outside of my daily uniform of leggings and tunics?!}

Now that's what I'm talkin' about...later week, hello weekend! Aren't these popsicles clever?

The more I surf the web, the more popsicle recipes, posts, images, etc I see! And since Summer decided to unpack her bags and stay for awhile...I just may do a little popsicle-making myself.

      Happy Weekend!

Scenes from the weekend: Pt. 2

What did I tell you? It was a great weekend. We got out of the city and lapped up the warm weather...and one giant margarita! And I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't counting down the days until this weekend. How do you top a nearly perfect holiday weekend? I'll gladly take on the challenge.
