Well, hello! Gosh, this week flew by! We've had colds at our house but we're on the road to repair. This weekend will be filled with lots of QT. I am looking forward to a shopping date {I need work clothes badly!} as well as an indoor water park adventure. There, I said it. Yes, we are heading to suburbia to introduce Olivia to the beauty of indoor pools. Nuts and a little bored...possibly.

What are you kids doing? Whatever it is I hope it's relaxing...and here's to hoping my closet looks as amazing as today's image by the time this weekend wraps up. Wishful thinking?

P.S. - My giveaway ends today! ..still time to enter!

Tree house

photo courtesy Lip Gloss and Flip Flops
Fall evokes a certain feeling in me. Something about bunking down...snuggling, yummy, hot beverages, layers, get the gist.

Don't ask me why but I saw this pic and it reminded me of Fall...and little gnomes. Strange response...yes, admittedly. It's such an enchanting little tree house. I'd hole up on the weekends and lay in a big dog pile...complete with pjs, magazines and my little family. We'd probably bake a lot, too. I'm sure of it!

P.S. - just wanted to route everyone to my blog roll on the right hand side. I've refreshed it and added some new blogs I'm smitten with. You should check them out! xo

Mommy Morsels

I'm reviving a newish series on the blog and it centers around my new title: Mom. While I don't proclaim to know it all - I can share with you the tips, tools and life savers that have made my life easier these past couple months. And...I'd love to hear from you, too! Anything that hushes a crying child is worth sharing!

Today's Mommy Morsel is from a fellow Chicago blogger that a friend introduced me to upon entering the blogosphere. She's witty, smart, vibrant, hip and a total hot mommy. She's a girl after my own heart because she rocks mommyhood in heels and with grace! And it doesn't hurt at all that her precious daughter Hazel is a feast for the eyes. {read: heart. melting} Please welcome Emily of Emphasis Added!
Before baby, I used to send emails to my friends with subject lines like "game-changer!" and in the body of the note, a link to something awesome like wedge booties for fall or the cape from Rachel Zoe's new collection.  Nowadays, however, I find that most of the glowing-reviews to leave my outbox are baby-related items.  My latest tot-obsession is so great that it warranted a mass email to all my mommy friends...and now this blog post

Have you heard of the Johnny Jump-up by evenflo?  It is basically a jumper seat that hangs from your door frame.   You put your munchkin in the swing-like seat and watch as they literally bounce themselves tired.

Quite often, value is measured by dollars saved or revenue generated....but when it comes to baby items, the metric of choice seems to be "how long did it keep my little one occupied?"  For the Johnny Jump-Up, the answer is staggering.  Every morning, my daughter hangs in there long enough for me to blow dry my hair AND put on makeup (miracle of miracles)!  She hops around squealing with delight as she defies gravity and her inability to stand upright.

The jump-up clamps on the door-frame, and can be easily moved from door to door.  It adjusts to any height, so it will keep up with your rapidly growing little one.  As if all that isn't enough, this contraption takes up  a fraction of the space of a traditional bouncer....

and with a $20 price tag, you just might have some money left over for that pair of wedge boots you've been eyeing!

Thanks Emily! Happy jumping to you and baby H!

Five Fall Faves

I am a sucker for Fall. I am coming clean and admitting it. I am powerless over my addiction for crisp leaves, hot beverages in the form of salted caramel mochas, boots in all styles, deep-bold lips, cozy sweaters and of course, pumpkins!

I'm starting a new series on the blog: Five Fall Faves.

Are you a smitten kitten with this weather, too? What do you relish about the Fall?
Can't wait to hear from you people!!

News from the crib...

There have been some milestones over at our house and I thought I'd share:

First off - Olivia had her second round of vaccinations and upon weighing her...the nurse exclaimed, "She's 12 pounds, oh my gosh!" Yup our little girl is a preemie no more. We've entered the land of double digits. Hoorah!

Also on the radar are Olivia's lashes. Yeah..see them?! My mom is gullible convinced that I am applying Latisse to her eyelashes every night. *ahem*

We also have a problem with socks. As in she refuses to wear them on her left foot. Observe. I found this sock in the kitchen, in the living room and on the stairs at least 5x's yesterday. I am not sure if she is trying to hint towards a pedicure or....? You know what Olivia...mommy needs a pedicure!! {I am sorry my feet look so busted}

Finally, this grainy shot was taken by husband's iPhone while I was out one day. Apparently our almost 5 month old has become apt in turning on the TV and watching Sports Center on Saturday mornings. She really likes to lounge around in bed and soak in the weekend. Oddly enough, I'd opt for Bravo or E! but I suppose she is her father's daughter.

Kids these days.

This is....

AWESOME. Watch it!

Saturday, September 24, 2011

The hallmark of a great birthday can be classified in many ways. In our house, a Lobstergram kinda reigns supreme. That and wearing a bib. Cue Mom + Dad P for gifting husband this delicious birthday gift.

And because we are SUCH party animals...I thought I'd share what a typical Wednesday night looks like in our household. Since I refuse to touch the creatures while alive; I tried to help prep the sides in between taking care of our diva. *ahem*  Even Olivia got in on the action.

Peace. Love. And Lobster.

Black Friday

I'm not going to lie to you and tell you this week was amazing. Nope, I'm not. Truth is, I have a cold and I feel wrecked due to lack of sleep. It's also been one of those weeks where every outfit I put on looks weird. And work is sort of making me feel like a hamster running in the same place. Do you ever have those weeks? And I really hate to be all somber and moody but that's how I feel. Just kinda over it. So excuse me for today. I have some defunking to do.

The positives: I run my first 5K post-baby tomorrow and Olivia gets baptized on Sunday. Wish us luck and I hope you have a splendid weekend! xo

My Fall stiletto picks!

photos courtesy Lulus
There are a lot of websites I surf on a weekly basis. It's been awhile since I've been on Lulus. As fate would have it, stumbling upon their website was an epic disaster as I now have five pairs of shoes sitting in my shopping basket. Does it count that I just dropped a ton of clothing and shoes off at consignment and the salv arm? No? I thought so.

P.S. Tune in tomorrow for another fabulouso giveaway!!

Fierce Fall Beauty

Saturday, I had the privilege to attend the Nordstrom Cosmetics Trend Show with Ashleigh. So fun, even if we had to be in line by 7am, it was well worth it. I learned so much and it was a lively event...filled with giveaways, raffles, discounts, a lot of whooping & hollering and red carpet worthy looks. The tickets were $15 which could be applied to any purchase in their cosmetic and beauty department. You don't have to twist my arm.... learnings...well, Fall beauty is all about 3 things:
  1. luminous skin
  2. metallics
  3. bold, red lips
Here are some of my favorite pics from the event taken by Ashleigh
{thanks m'lady for sharing these great snaps!!}

What did we walk away with? Well, we had different wish lists. Ashleigh was looking for fab skincare with retinol ingredients that would make her already flawless face even more "luminous." Me? I wanted bold, dark raspberry lips for Fall but I had very specific parameters. I wanted to splurge on a fab lipstick so the lipstick had to:

1. be from Dior, Chanel or YSL
2. be matte
3. not be red
4. not be sheer
5. not slide off my lips or bleed.

Thanks to Heath, the amazing talent behind the Chanel counter, I settled on Coco Rouge "rivoli" and it was just right. Goldilocks' famous last words... Oh, and of course I needed a blush to match so I walked away with the Chanel tweed blush.

All in all - a success! I highly recommend attending their next show. It's a photographer's dream and major blogger eye candy!

OOOTD: kickin' it!

This is what Olivia looks like when she's kickin' it - you know, lounging on the couch. She has a real stressful life. You may have noticed that she already has a knack for mixing patterns. Impressive.

The deets:
  • long sleeve tee: Circo
  • striped leggings: Target
The occasion: Dad dressed her. He likes to call it "stars and stripes". Sure, ok.

Maxi dress Friday!

Are we sensing a trend this week? If there was a Super Bowl of maxi dresses, this indeed would be the champion! Hello Lanvin. Such beautiful layers of gauzy, scrumptious fabric cascading to the ground in metallic heavenly stripes. Ok...that's enough dress porn for you.

It's the weekend! So many good things on the radar. Hanging in tonight with some buds and tomorrow bright'n early I am meeting Miss Ashleigh for the Nordstrom Cosmetic Trend Show...hip hip! Following our early morning meet up, some clever friends of ours planned an "Ourvinia". {If you're from IL you'll know what Ravinia is and this is their version complete with outdoor activities on the lakefront} ...and Sunday we just might scope out some neighborhoods to look for houses. Whaaa? Yup, for realz.

Enough about me...what's on your agenda!

Stay tuned for next week's giveaway. Big fan!

How do you style your maxi dress for Fall?

Maxi dresses. They're comfortable and you can style them so many ways. I have a few that I think I can transition into Fall. Problem is I am stumped. As in "fashion stumped". I sought inspiration on Pinterest and found the above.

When I look at these pictures I think "Duh!" {slaps palm to forehead} But then Monday comes and I stare at my dresses wondering how to style them so it doesn't appear like my dress is eating me.

What's wrong with me? Have I lost my fashion mojo due to lack of sleep?

Tell do you style your maxi dresses, dears???

Scenes from the 2

And here is part deux of our weekend! As you can see, Olivia is quite the traveler. We think her palette is quite mature given her age. And yes, she has fully embraced Fall's fashion trends...hello animal print!

What did you do this weekend? Did you slurp up the last of our summer weather?
