What would you tell you?

It's easy to get inspired by Pinterest and blogging in general. And that's exactly what happened to me yesterday. I came across Heather's blog post and I thought...gosh, if I knew what I know now!

Here's what I would tell a younger version of myself:
  1. Don't marry for the big white dress and wedding. Marry because you're ready - even if that means you're the last of your friends to walk down the aisle.
  2. Credit cards are not your friend...stay away and use only for emergencies. Friday night closet raids are not an emergency.
  3. Moving in with someone before marriage is always a good idea. Trust your instincts.
  4. Stop starving yourself. It actually slows down your metabolism, genius.
  5. You should take more business classes @ Iowa. They will come in handy.
  6. If you feel like your friendship with someone is one-sided...it probably is. It can't be all you giving with no return.
  7. Stop drinking cheap wine. That's why you're puking the next morning. Oh and you should probably eat before drinking...see #4.
  8. You should live on your own before you move in with any man. Trust.
  9. If you want to be something or pursue a certain career goal - go for it! The time is now...no strings attached.
  10. You will conceive and have kids...stop worrying.
  11. Travel, travel, travel. You should do more of it and often.
  12. Be nicer to your parents - they will always have your back.
  13. Don't even consider dying your hair brown. That would be a mistake.
  14. Floss more.
  15. Ask for that raise. You deserve it. Don't be a human door mat.
  16. Take a chance. Take a risk. Don't worry what others think - that's the only way you'll grow.
  17. Don't date a man on the rebound - especially one who just had his heart broken. You can't be her.
  18. If you're going to get a tattoo...put it somewhere you can conceal it.
  19. Remember you're brother is 6.5 years younger than you. Give him a chance...he'll catch up to you.
  20. Do what you love if you're going to have to work everyday.
  21. You don't have to be a stay-at-home mom if you don't want to.
  22. Sometimes what you're searching for is right under your nose!
  23. Visit your parents more often.
  24. You'll grow out of this whole "designer denim" trend - don't buy so many pairs, sister!
  25. Buy Apple shares. {courtesy the husband}
  26. Always be able to support yourself - don't rely on anyone else.
What about you?
What would you tell yourself?

Awww! Thank you for the shout out.

I love that photo of you. Stunning!! (You still are). Actually you don't look that different?

You should never dye your hair brown. I agree! That blond is your signature color.

I love the one about buying too many pairs of designer jeans. OMG - me too.

And this is my favorite: Stop drinking cheap wine. That's why you're puking the next morning. Oh and you should probably eat before drinking...see #4.

AMEN sister! :-)

Fabulous.
Re: #25 - I think our hubbies would get along well :)

I think I would tell myself to just relax and stop stressing so much, everything will fall into place as it's meant to be. Sleepless nights, a permanent pit in my stomach and being 'too busy' to enjoy life were sooo 20 years ago...

Love that pic of you!

So true, so true! We also have Apple shares because of the husband. I'm so happy we are able to travel so much (though we also go home a lot to see my parents more!) Thank you for the reminder about the one sided friendship and I may take a risk soon. We'll see!

We twenty-somethings need your advice! This was an AWESOME post. So many of my former classmates have gotten married right out of college, without ever paying a bill on their own, or living on their own (went straight from Dad to husband's bank account). I just can't believe that's a good feeling.

Love that you can use humor, and say really insightful things in a way that is positive and non-judgemental. So many people can come across as bossy, but you certainly have the gift of communication!

OK, first of all, WOW...u look amazing in that pic! Bet you had an awesome time in Vegas. As for the rest...I relate to you in the following points: 2,3,4,6,9,12,14,20 and 25. About wrong guys, well, I wouldn't even try to talk to my 20-year-old self about it. I guess that we just have to follow our heart and learn. I would focus on being selective with the girlfriends though (related to your #6) Now, this is what I tell to your 34-year-old-self: Don't miss the new episode of Giuliana and Bill tonight at 8pm EST. And maybe we can catch the rerun of the previous week after that! :) XOXO

Ha ha! Hindsight. I'd have to say that your list pretty much sums it up. From relationships and education to flossing. You've got it covered. Where were you with this awesome advice when I was in my 20s??!! ;)
