Retro bathing suits

The Cut did a great slide show yesterday on retro swimsuits and I literally swooned going from slide to slide. The last suit can be found @ Anthro and is my absolute favorite. This just gets me excited for Summer!

I's totally cool to sport one of these with a huge belly, right?

Kitchen stuff that isn't boring...

Who says becoming a domestic goddess is boring?

Here are a few Etsy picks that I would quite like in our kitchen. I'm sure I'd cook more!

What Saturday looked like...

It was a hot one - 92 is what our car read. And we don't waste time over-thinking what needs to be done. We knew it had to include outside, water and shade. Voila! It doesn't get more suburban than this, ladies and gents.

And yes, that cage in the background is for our fellow opossum who has yet to show his face since setting it up!

** new blog series ** 5 Summer Essentials: featuring Gloria of Little White Whale

Happy Memorial Day Everyone! I am excited to kick off an exciting season of guest blogging with you. This round will be all about Summer Essentials...5 of 'em to be exact! And I couldn't be happier to kick it off with a dear blogger friend {one of the first I got to know!} who happens to have stellar taste and a superb sense of humor. She finds the coolest things on the interwebs and for that I am always inspired by her blog - Little White Whale. I am 100% confident you will love Gloria as much as I do. Take it away, Gloria-girl!

Why hello there, 101 Things I Love readers! I'm so delighted to be here today to kick off Johanna's fun 5 Summer Essentials series! Every year, I impatiently cross off days on my calendar, waiting for summer to arrive. Big shocker, right? Who doesn't love a season full of popsicles, dips in the pool, and neon pink nails? Here are some of my must have items when the weather warms up:

1. Does anyone else hate lugging around a heavy leather purse that sticks to your skin in 90 degree weather? Swap it out for an airy canvas tote like this one from Z Gallerie. The chevron print never goes out of style, and it's roomy enough to bring to the park or beach to boot!

2. I've never been much of a hat person, but I've recently come around and added two to my wardrobe. This fedora from Anthropologie makes me want to add a third - the pink scarf is such a sweet touch!

3. I have an unofficial skirts & dresses uniform once June hits, so it's no wonder that this adorable dress from ModCloth caught my eye. Seersucker just screams "Let's go get an ice cream cone and spend the afternoon leisurely strolling around town!" to me.

4. As much as I love my heels, they definitely take a backseat to sandals during the summer months. I'm especially loving this pair from ASOS - they're neutral enough to go with just about everything, and yet that contrasting t-strap gives it an extra bit of oomph!

5. It's time to break out all of the crazy, colorful jewelry you've been hiding in your closet! This gorgeous necklace from J.Crew will not only turn heads with its bright orange beads, but the seahorse charm adds a touch of nautical fun as well.

Thank you Gloria for your contribution to my never-ending shopping list. My husband thanks you kindly, too. But in all seriousness, that dress is a-calling-my name! You can also find Gloria on Twitter, too! xo

Ch-ch-change is here!

Good morning friends! Working on some changes around the ol' blog. Here's what you can expect:

First off - a new blog series commences on Monday, Memorial Day. Starting every Monday from now through August; you can read up on summer splurges, steals, dreams and wish lists courtesy the handful of amazing guest bloggers I've lined up for you. One word: FUN!

Second - I think I am going to lay Litany of Love to bed. It's been fun but I think it's run its course. I haven't figured out a replacement yet...anything on your wish list?

Third - I am cutting my weekend posts. Let's face it - it's Summer and we all want to be outside, not read blogs. We'll save that for the crappy weather.

Fourth - I am going to pursue a new blog design for August. Time to freshen things up a bit. If you know or can recommend anyone...please do share!

Fifth - I hope you have an amazing Memorial Day weekend!

Outfitting a second nursery.

Baby Nursery Mobile - Baby Crib Mobile - Baby Mobile - Polka Dot Grey Powder Yellow White Elephants theme(Custom colors available)

CRIB SHEET in Chevron Zig Zag Print (CUSTOM: choose your fabric)

Jenny Lind-Style Crib
I feel like we accomplished a lot last weekend. It's hard to get excited about designing another nursery when you don't have colors and a theme to steer you. No longer the case!

We chose the Jenny Lind crib because it received great reviews and was a bit of a departure from Olivia's contemporary nursery. I wanted the girls to have different rooms and a different aesthetic. We also scored a fantastic, little, vintage dresser on Craig's List which will double as a changing table.

With that we chose a color scheme: yellow, gray and white. Soothing, clean and serene. I'm excited! The fitted crib sheet will be the yellow chevron pictured above. {and I bought an orange chevron pattern for Liv} And of course, the mobile is the obvious "elephant" in the room. So where Olivia had owls, TBD, or Dos as we call her, will have elephants.

My only question for you is, seeing as we have decided to go with a yellow, gray and white color you think we should repaint the dresser or leave as is? It could be a fun pop of color.

Opinions...let's hear 'em!

Another year wiser.

Today is my birthday. I learned so much this past year...way too much to ever include in a post. Even thinking about it makes me tired but these are good things, friends. Because without growth I suppose you never come close to becoming the person you'd always dreamt you'd be.

So instead of a toast to more birthdays or turning 34...toast me to another year of growth. That and having your cake and eating it, too. Cheers and thanks for all of your support. xo

On turning 34...

I want to admit something. Fun birthday wish lists aside, I'm really not that excited about my birthday this week. It's not that I fear getting older...not at all, actually. I guess I just feel a little tired. Tired mentally from running ragged trying to juggle and jockey so many things. And sure, presents are cool and fun but let's face it - I don't really need anything. I'm pretty lucky as they house, great  growing family, etc etc but I just feel blah.

My husband asked me what I wanted to do and I couldn't come up with anything. I suppose dinner would be nice but then there is the never ending game of "find a babysitter." Don't have the energy. And, I used to love dressing up but when you have a beach ball hanging off the front of you...let's just say I don't skip with eager anticipation over to my closet every morning.

Perhaps I'm being hormonal or just at a crossroads trying to figure this whole "be a FT mom and balance a career thing". I think they call it seeking "balance".

Heavy for a birthday, right? Yeah, I thought so. I'll just have to remind myself of this ribbon come Wednesday. But then again, tomorrow's a new day, right?

Signs of Summer Friday!

It's for reals! Surely you know what I mean...Summer!

After a long week, what better reward than to be smacked in the face with 80 degree temps?! I'm busting out the maxis and gladiators and searching for the best ice cream spot in my hood. Sprinkled in between may be the occasional home project and gobs of family time but I am proud to say we have nothing on the agenda.

How about you?

Litany of Love

Today's Litany of Love is laser-focused on one thing: baubles. Bauble Bar to be exact. Here's what I'm lovin' from the interweb's best jewelry destination...IMO, of course!

  1. Just a little touch of neon for your wrist.
  2. Rose gold and links = DONE.
  3. You had me at "tangelo".
  4. This resin necklace would be your Summer staple, trust me.
  5. An up-to-date nameplate necklace.
  6. Gemstone-y earrings. Very organic looking.
  7. More cuff love!
  8. I'd wear this orb ring paired with #2.
  9. Festival wear for your inner hippie.
  10. Gorgeous cascade earrings for your fancier nights out on the town.

Matching ruby slippers

photos courtesy Google
I was sorta thinking that it would be cool if Liv and I had matching summer sandals for things like...oh' I don't know - Memorial Day, 4th of July, long walks and talks, parades, farmers' markets, Labor Day and basically anything that you can wear red sandals with. I adorable would her piggies be in these things?

Inspiration: stylish travel

I've mentioned before how much travel influences my style - both with fashion and decor. Each country brings a unique perspective to the table and that excites me. Due to physical is not in my near future thus I am living vicariously through Pinterest. Images from Italy, India, France and St. Lucia inspired me to find fashion photography that matched the landscape.

Which one's your favorite? Have you been to any of the above?

Bring it y'all!

Friends: I am seeking some new-to-me blog reads and inspo. Bring it!
Who are you reading as of late?

Happy Mother's Day to all!

Saturday, May 12, 2012

I am somewhat of a sweets connoisseur. I would eat a cookie or a piece of chocolate over a meal any day of the week. Healthy, no. Delicious, yes.

Olivia's birthday was a success last weekend and while I would have loved to make the party favors...I had already tasked myself with one two rainbow cakes which meant a late Friday night. Cookie party favors were not in the cards. Ahh, well...I suppose that's how the cookie crumbles {womp womp}

I resorted to my trusty sidekick, Etsy, and ordered 24 of the most delicious, frosted shortbread cookies my tongue has ever laid taste on. They were positively adorable. Be sure to look this store up: Batches.  {Olivia had the monkey versions below} They have all different shapes and themes - perfect for baby or bridal showers and of course, birthdays.

Generally, when a cookie is this artfully decorated, the taste is horrible. Such is not the case with Batches. There was no starchy after taste and they ship right before your occasion to ensure freshness. I'm thinking these would be really fun for a Parisian themed shower. You must try them out for your next soiree!

"Don't forget mom" Friday

Mother's Day is here but once again. It's barely been a blip on my radar up until today. That's because I have presents starting at me in the face just waiting to be wrapped. We'll add that to the To-Do list for the weekend. It's kinda crazy that this is the second consecutive Mother's Day in which I've been pregnant. A trend I don't plan on repeating but lovely nonetheless.

Here's what's new at our crib:
- Olivia has learned to give her baby doll kisses.
- I've been to the grocery store every day this week. Seriously!?!!
- We have a new friend in the's a possum. Sonofa...!
- I'm really tired of my maternity clothes. Real tired.
- We bought a couch. A real, adult couch.
- Olivia no longer eats baby food. Read: refuses.
- I no longer care about shaving my legs. {kidding, sorta...not really}
- We have 973 light switches and approximately 4 of them work...and about every light bulb needs to be replaced.

Have a restful weekend with a scrumptious Sunday brunch! Give yo momma a hug! xo

Voted best new lip gloss of 2012! {self-declared}

While I never lament about beauty products that don't work and there are plenty; you can always count on me to share my beauty triumphs with you. Such is the case with Anastasia Beverly Hills new, limited Edition set - "See and Be Seen" One word: amazing!

I wrote about my new favorite lipstick here. As it turns out, I'm an equal opportunist when it comes to my lip products. Some days call for gloss while others require more drama...hence my never-ending addiction to lipstick. Well, this here kit is a game changer, friends. {$44 with an $80 value} The Hydrafull Glosses come in "Heiress" and "Plastic". The glosses are thick and shiny like a spreadable shellac for your lips and both colors are perfect for this time of year. One gloss has a coral pigment and the other screams Barbie pink! {check it out on Anastasia's website}

My favorite part about these glosses is the after-result. These glosses actually stain your lips the color of said gloss so that you have this perfectly, natural tint. I love that! Maybe that looks isn't for everyone but to me...that's money well spent!

And without writing an extraordinary long diatribe...I must share that there's more to this kit. It includes:
· The new caramel tinted Brow Gel. Anastasia’s brow gel sets your perfect brow look with a hint of tint and is fortified with botanical hair conditioners and essential oils to keep brows feeling as great as they look.
· The soft pink and golden hues of the ILLUMIN8 Shadow duo in On Set. ILLUMIN8 Eye Shadow Duos are designed to illuminate, firm, and smooth the appearance of skin while also soothing, softening and hydrating.

AND...the most amazing packaging I've seen in a long time. The kit came with a 3D Viewmaster {remember those?} showcasing the star of the show - "Lash Genius".

Pretty sure this is the most fun I've had with new products in a very long time!!

Closet nerd confession: address stamps

For as long as I can remember, I've eagerly anticipated the purchase of my first home so that one day I could buy a rubber stamp with our family name and address. True story. Something very rooted and official about the whole thing. Well...the time has come and now you know how big a nerd I am. Here's my top 3: which one do you like?

Women Who Inspire: SJP

sources found here
I am no different than 98% of American women...I love Sarah Jessica Parker and of course, it all stemmed from the SATC days. With a penchant for trendsetting fashion, supporting the arts, a bustling movie career while landing major beauty spokesperson's no wonder the petite powerhouse has garnered our affections. Yet somehow she makes her family of four top priority. To me, that takes some skills!

Here's a round-up of some of my favorite SJP looks...sister loves color!
